Timber Marking Hammer

Page from the 1874 Lumber Marking Guide. This Guide has almost 300 pages of ‘Marks’ used in the Timber business in the 19th century in Canada.

This particular ‘hammer’ head was found in the backyard of a house not far from the Mill in Kinmount. It belonged to the Rathbun Lumber Company and was likely buried for over a hundred years. It was found when the septic system was installed.
